Mercedes-AMG GT 63 4-Door electric hypercar makes V8 noises

The Mercedes-AMG GT 63 Electric has no engine. No V8. No exhaust. Start it, put it into Sport Plus and it sounds exactly like the V8 in the AMG GTR — growling, gurgling, popping and banging on every simulated gear shift. AMG have built an electric car that sounds like the thing it replaced. Whether that is enough is the question. 1,153bhp. 2,000 Nm of torque. 0 to 100 in 2.1 seconds. 0 to 200 in 6.4 seconds. A 110 kWh battery with 800-volt architecture, 600 kW charging that gives you 400 kilometres of range in 10 minutes and a WLTP range of up to 700 kilometres. Peak output is 1153bhp (860 kW) but AMG say continuous power — 710bhp (530 kW) — is the number that matters. No AMG V8 has ever put up numbers like this. Three axle flux motors — one front, two rear. Three times the power density of a conventional electric motor, twice the torque density, 67 per cent smaller and lighter. The 110 kWh battery uses 2,660 direct-cooled cylindrical cells. The AMG GT 63 4-door Coupe weighs 2,460 kilograms and still sits lower than the ICE GT four-door. Sport Plus mode simulates V8 sounds and gear shifts. Three physical dials inside for responsiveness, agility and traction. Active spoiler at 80 kmph, optional active diffuser at 120 kmph. 21-inch wheels, Panamericana grille, boomerang tail lamps, notchback coupe profile, 460 litre boot. Four adults fit in the back with their feet in pockets built into the battery floor. Sixty three plaques — each signed by someone who built this car and you cannot choose whose plaque you get. AMGs used to be about one person and one engine. There is no engine here.
