BRP Diego Silang (FFG-07) reportedly tracked and locked a People’s Liberation Army Navy Type 054A guided-missile frigate using its electro-optical targeting system. Following a standard radio challenge by the Philippine Navy crew, the Chinese warship later departed the area. Both BRP Miguel Malvar (FFG-06) and BRP Diego Silang (FFG-07) are equipped with the Safran PASEO XLR, an advanced electro-optical/infrared (EO/IR) sensor suite that supports surveillance, target identification, and fire-control functions. The PASEO XLR integrates high-resolution daylight cameras, thermal imaging, laser range-finding, and automatic tracking, allowing long-range detection and precise target locking in day, night, and reduced-visibility conditions.
