🇨🇳💙 边境吉罗 wonderful Blue Mahseer – Neolissochilus heterostomus Known in China as 异口新光唇鱼 and often traded as the Blue Mahseer (蓝吉罗), this impressive river fish inhabits the clear, fast-flowing mountain rivers of Yunnan Province, particularly the Nujiang, Dayingjiang, and Ruili River systems near the Myanmar border. Growing well over 80 cm (31 in) in the wild and reaching weights of more than 10 kg, this species is admired for its striking metallic-blue scales and powerful swimming ability. In China, it is regarded as an important native cyprinid, valued for both its ecological significance and its potential in sustainable aquaculture. Chinese researchers have successfully developed captive breeding and artificial propagation programs, helping to reduce pressure on wild populations while making captive-bred juveniles increasingly available for conservation, public aquariums, and hobbyists. For the best coloration and health, Blue Mahseer are typically maintained in cool, oxygen-rich water (20–24°C / 68–75°F) with moderate hardness, neutral pH, and strong current.
