Description

Curvilinear sprints challenge your lateral stabilizers (adductors, glutes) and ankles/lower leg muscles more than traditional straight-line sprints, making them a powerful tool for developing speed in sports that demand lateral movement and rapid changes of direction (hockey!). They’re often not prescribed in training programs simply because most gyms don’t have the space to support them. But if you can get to a field, I highly recommend incorporating them. While linear sprinting still has value, curved sprinting offers a different neuromuscular stimulus that transfers well to crossover and edgework mechanics. I’m using a rope here to guide the curve, but cones work just as well to mark your track. I’ve got some new workouts using the Curved sprints coming to my new Hockey Training HQ app, so download it today if you want to be the first to get those.
