Description

One electrical box… One small detail… A big difference once the walls are closed. Whenever I’m installing an outlet on an exterior wall, I use a vapour box behind the electrical box. It helps maintain the integrity of the air/vapour barrier around one of the biggest weak points in an exterior wall. In climates with hot summers and freezing winters, every penetration through the vapour barrier is an opportunity for unwanted air movement. That’s why, after the wall is insulated and the poly is installed, I carefully cut out the box and tape the vapour barrier directly to the vapour box to complete the seal. It’s one of those details that nobody will ever see after the drywall goes up… but it’s exactly the kind of work that helps a home perform better for years to come. Did your builder install vapour boxes on your exterior wall outlets, or is this the first time you’ve seen them? #HomeBuilding #Electrical #Renovation vapour box, electrical vapour box, exterior wall outlet, vapour barrier, air sealing, electrical rough in, home building, insulation, home renovation, contractor tips, electrical box installation, energy efficiency, building science, DIY renovation, construction tips, electrical outlet, home improvement, framing, building envelope, contractor life
