I Don't Understand Silent Letters

Ever wonder why "Island" was spelled with a "S"? Then you've come to the write place! Silent letters come in all kinds of different shapes and sizes. The reasons they exist are even more varied. Here are some of the few wacky reasons we all failed spelling bee in 5th grade. PS: Sorry for the sweat and the distorted sound. It's still a million degrees in Paris and I can't control my voice...
