Manipur is witnessing a fresh escalation in tensions with shutdowns, blockades, killings and hostage-related developments intensifying unrest in the hill districts. The Kuki Inpi Manipur has extended its 48-hour total shutdown across Kuki-Zo areas following the killing of three church leaders in Kangpokpi district. Massive protests erupted in Churachandpur, where women’s groups marched under the Kuki Women Organisation for Human Rights demanding justice, stronger security measures, and the re-imposition of President’s Rule. A memorandum has been submitted to the Union Home Minister seeking a high-level investigation and enhanced deployment of security forces. Meanwhile, the shutdown has disrupted life on NH-2, leaving over 200 vehicles stranded with passengers facing shortages of food, water, and essential supplies.
