ASB Good as Gold: Nick Petry & Kora

This week's ASB Good as Gold recipients are Nick Petry of Tauranga, and his best mate, his trained tracking dog, Kora. Nick has been a part of Land Search and Rescue (LSAR) for over a decade, with Kora becoming operational alongside him in 2020. Together they have volunteered countless hours deploying to provide support for the lost, missing or injured. Being a LSAR dog handler is fully self-funded, with Nick adopting Kora and covering her training, insurance, and maintenance himself. But Nick carries these costs so that he and Kora are always able to respond to a call out at a moment’s notice. The duo is on call 24/7 and are often called out at all hours of the day and night, rain, hail, and shine. They have a clear love for what they do, and their work and efforts have saved many lives.
