Description
After catching the siren test in Walker County, @CentralALSirens and I went out to Marion County to see about their monthly siren test. We couldn't entirely decide between attempting this ACA Screamer in Guin at the city hall or going for the Thunderbeam in Hamilton, and decided to swing by this Screamer to at least snag some photos of it and see if we could determine if it was still active or not. After talking to the clerk in the city hall, she thought this siren was still active, so James and I decided to attempt it. Admittedly, it turns-out that we should've attempted the Thunderbeam instead, as when they tested a couple of minutes after noon, we heard a Whelen Vortex wind-up somewhere not too far away to our southeast while this one sadly remained silent. After the test, I was also able to confirm with a Guin city councilman that this siren's apparently been dead for well over a decade after Marion County upgraded the system years ago. At least I still finally (kinda) got a Marion County county test though, so I'll just have to see about coming back out here later this year for the Thunderbeam in Hamilton.
Interestingly, we did confirm that this siren was originally installed as the city's fire siren back in the day!
Marion County, AL, tests on the first Wednesday of every month at noon, weather permitting.
