After a fairly short lived round of these NHL Playoffs saw the Dallas Stars and the Carolina Hurricanes eliminated meaning, we now know the Edmonton Oilers and Florida Panthers will rematch in the Stanley Cup Final. Incredibly, it also marks the 45th consecutive year a Jaromir Jagr teammate will play in the cup final with Barkov back in it. This week was another fun one though filled with some drama as well. Paul Maurice and Rod Brind’Amour had an awkward looking exchange at the end of game 5 that sparked a little controversy when Maurice proclaimed he didn’t think coaches should shake hands with the players. In the Western Conference Final, controversy from he coach came form Pete DeBoer who made a shocking decision to pull his starting goaltender Jake Oettinger just 7 minutes into an elimination game after he faced just 2 shots but even worse, he completely threw Oettinger under the bus with some shocking post game comments. This week, we also saw the Carolina Hurricanes break their 15 game losing streak in Eastern Conference Final games, Jeff Skinner score his first career playoff goal which was great and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins become 1 of just 4 players in NHL history to start a conference final with 4 consecutive 2 point games. With a rematch ahead, we are now witnessing this for just the 3rd time in 45 years as Connor McDavid looks to repeat the results from the last two in that the losing team the first year, won it the second time around. Incredibly, Corey Perry will play in his 6th Stanley Cup Final while Brad Marchand who nearly eliminated the Panthers from the Playoffs in 2023, will now look to win a cup with his former rivals. The rematch of last years Stanley Cup Finale looks to be electric but for now, let's recap everything worth a second look from this past week of hockey in the final edition of The NHL Playoffs are out of control!
