Description

Another Santa-sack of technical goodies from AliExpress for us to explore. These videos are not sponsored by AliExpress. I buy all these items myself. Here are some links to the items. These are affiliate links, but that will not affect the price you pay. Keep in mind that these products may not meet your country's standards. Some listings may not work for some countries and some may just be sold out or disappear. When paying on AliExpress, let the transaction complete before leaving the purchase page as otherwise the purchase may not go through. Many of these items may appear in the bundle deal section if viewed or added to your cart. The intriguing universal power-tool battery light:- https://s.click.aliexpress.com/e/_c4DRkyOB About £2.50 The traditional three-AA cell baseball cap light:- https://s.click.aliexpress.com/e/_c4KtfSfZ About £1.50 as a bundle deal item. Don't pay more than £2. Fashion-statement big gold head torch:- https://s.click.aliexpress.com/e/_c4op4LyB About £2.60, but will be cheaper if it appears in the bundle section. The surprisingly decent swivelable baseball cap skip/brim light:- https://s.click.aliexpress.com/e/_c4SZBf1t £2.50 to £4 depending on random factors. It turns out I took apart a seemingly identical unit about 5 years ago. It has a protected 803040 1000mAh lithium cell in it that tested at around 950mAh. The two identical head torches came from this listing. They have the same lacklustre 14500 "400mAh" lithium cell in them, complete with a red negative and blue positive wire, and a tested capacity of about 220mAh. Only linked here if you want the bits for a project. The current limiting through the LEDs seems to rely on the transistor:- https://s.click.aliexpress.com/e/_c43prsM7 Don't pay more than £2.50. Curved ingrown nail trimmer:- https://s.click.aliexpress.com/e/_c3Zvwblv About £2.00. Tiny weighing scales disguised as a car fob:- https://s.click.aliexpress.com/e/_c3Ewf3Xd Cost about £3. Slim LED flame effect COBs:- https://s.click.aliexpress.com/e/_c3m9bPyf About £2 for a pack of five. I recommend using a 100 ohm resistor for 5V and use a magnifier to see the negative connection. The more complex shaped flame:- https://s.click.aliexpress.com/e/_c2uvOBMX About £1 each. Use a resistor with these. I recommend 100 ohm as it will limit the current and protect the module if you connect polarity the wrong way round. (It's not marked!) Frosted jar with flame effect inside:- https://s.click.aliexpress.com/e/_c2RH7LS7 Cost about £2. I did some LED current tests on the rechargeable head torches. The underwhelming ones with the miserable 220mAh 14500 cells:- 4.2V - High 210mA Low 40mA 3.7V - High 170mA Low 32mA 2.8V - High 47mA Low 8mA IR standby 15mA Low cell cut-off 2.5V The impressive swivelling baseball cap clip-on light with the 1000mAh cell (tested at 950mAh):- 4.2V - High 178mA Low 95mA 3.7V - High 124mA Low 67mA 2.8V - High 24mA Low 12mA IR standby 5mA Low cell cut-off 2.5V (cell protection module) If you enjoy my videos then the easiest way to support the channel is to subscribe for more good video content.
