Description

When a child grows up with a parent who can’t connect emotionally, they may start looking for connection in whatever form it comes. Sometimes the only time a parent responds is when the child is angry, acting out, or “being bad.” And for a child, even negative attention can feel better than no connection at all. Other times, that child may begin looking for surrogate connection elsewhere, through a friend’s parent, another safe adult, or any home where warmth feels more available. You didn’t choose the ways you learned to seek connection. But with the right support, you can begin to understand those patterns and heal the loneliness underneath them. This is a throwback to my chat with Theo Von back in 2024. It was a raw one, and something important for anyone who can relate to Theo.
