Description
A team of UNSW researchers has developed a new method to read out the quantum state of an atomic nucleus with minimal disturbance. Atomic nuclei can be used as building blocks for quantum computers. Some of their quantum states are used to flag the occurrence of errors during the computation, but the standard way of reading them out can introduce errors that did not exist otherwise. Here, the researchers show that these detection errors can be minimised by repeatedly probing the states that are thought to be empty.
