Bhimayana Part 2

This lecture delves into the art style of the graphic novel Bhimayana. When used to weave a narrative, the Pardhan Gond art style challenges the conventions of art as well as reading, reorienting the reader’s gaze with every page. In the free-flowing artistic world of Bhimayana, background and foreground are flattened; birds, animals, plants abound, and inanimate objects are given human features; the sequentiality of panels is broken by the use of dignas; and symbolism is given precedence over realism. It characterises the incidents and experiences of caste discrimination in a distinct way.
