The crew of nearly 4,500 took 30 hours to extinguish the blaze, one sailor said it was "fight or die," and sources said the ship's fire suppression system failed to activate, forcing the carrier to divert to Greece. The Navy's first statement cited two injuries, but later reporting showed nearly 200 sailors were treated for smoke exposure and one was evacuated. Reporting points to a laundry-area fire, with the investigation ongoing. Iranian media amplified claims of an attack, though no public evidence connects the fire to a strike.
