The festival begins with the ceremonial Kodiyettam (flag hoisting), signaling the start of the festivities. Over the course of 36 hours, meticulously timed processions of temple deities maintain the festival’s energy and grandeur. The day traditionally opens with the ceremonial entrance of Kanimangalam Sastha, followed by the processions of other participating deities, creating a mesmerizing sequence of rituals. Thrissur Pooram is much more than a temple festival—it is a cultural spectacle that unites people of all backgrounds.
