Journey Into Imagination officially opened at EPCOT Center on March 5, 1983, and quickly became a fan favorite thanks to its groundbreaking effects, unforgettable music, and lovable characters. Guests joined Dreamfinder, the eccentric inventor of imagination, and his mischievous purple dragon companion Figment on a whimsical journey through the worlds of art, literature, science, performing arts, and creativity. For many Disney fans, the original Journey Into Imagination wasn't just a ride, it was the heart and soul of EPCOT. The attraction's iconic Sherman Brothers song, "One Little Spark," became an anthem for generations of guests, while Dreamfinder and Figment became two of the most beloved characters ever created by Walt Disney Imagineering. The attraction was the centerpiece of the Imagination Pavilion, sponsored by Kodak, and concluded in the legendary ImageWorks interactive playground, where guests could continue exploring their own creativity long after leaving the ride. This particular home video recording is especially significant. 📼 This VHS home video tape was recorded on September 30, 1998. Just 10 days later, on October 10, 1998, the original Journey Into Imagination closed forever, bringing an end to a beloved chapter in EPCOT history. The attraction would reopen in 1999 as Journey Into Your Imagination, a dramatically different version that proved unpopular with many fans. As a result, footage of the original attraction has become an invaluable time capsule of an experience that countless Disney enthusiasts still consider one of the greatest dark rides Disney has ever created. This video has been restored in 4K to preserve a piece of Disney history for future generations.
