Description

I just did something really stupid. was installing some shelving and ran three screws right into my PVC drain line. Now, at first, I thought about trying to get some sort of epoxy or PVC pipe repair kit to shove in the screw holes. But after talking to my plumber, he said it would probably be best if I just cut this section out. Especially since it’s going to be enclosed behind drywall, I wouldn’t know if I had a small leak over time. So, I picked up two flexible shielded PVC couplings. It’s funny- this looks like one of those tubes that you put your money in at the bank drive through. This coupling is 4” tall so I made a mark 2” up on the pipe- this way I knew how far to slide it so I would be centered on the two pieces of pipe. After I got it tightened down, I ran some water to make sure there were no leaks. And then I reused the same piece of drywall I cut out earlier. These couplings were $28 a piece, so I don’t need to spend any more money on drywall. Now you might be wondering why I didn’t just use PVC glue-in couplings….this pipe won’t move up or down at all, so there was no way to get them in. Let me know- was this a smart repair? Or how would you have fixed it? @hausplans #build #howto #repair #construction #diy #contractor
