The US on Monday announced that it had deployed sea drones for the first time. “Three unmanned vessels hit the port at Bandar Abbas Naval Base, marking the first time American forces have employed sea drones in combat operations”, the US Central Command Announced. How is India Doing: Last year Liquid Robotics, a Boeing company, announced to partnership with Sagar Defence and Engineering to co-develop and co-produce advanced maritime systems including Uncrewed Surface Vehicles (USVs). India have developed what is called the Man-portable Autonomous Underwater Vehicles (MP-AUVs) for mine countermeasure missions. The system comprises multiple AUVs equipped with Side Scan Sonar and Under Water cameras as primary payloads for real-time detection and classification of objects. The world is looking at sea drones. The tri-lateral security partnership between US, UK and Australia known by its acronym (AUKUS) announced a two-pronged expansion, an undersea drone network by 2027 India with other countries: India and US unveiled a new bilateral initiative, the Autonomous Systems Industry Alliance (ASIA). This initiative aims to have collaboration between the defence industries of both countries to co-develop and co-produce advanced autonomous systems, including AI-driven maritime drones. India and UK launched Defence Industrial Roadmap is focused on among other things underwater systems. India-Australia joint statement on June 2 discussed efforts to finalise the Joint Maritime Security Collaboration Roadmap. They agreed to explore opportunities to enhance undersea domain awareness.
