Description

In this video, we embark on a scenic road trip starting from Thimphu, the bustling capital of Bhutan, heading towards the serene Phobjikha Valley. Our first stop was a small chai place to warm up before climbing higher into the mountains. From there, we reached the famous Dochula Pass. This is one of Bhutan’s most beautiful mountain passes, sitting at 3,100 meters (10,171 ft). It is known for the 108 memorial chortens (stupas) built by the Queen Mother and offers a stunning 360-degree view of the Eastern Himalayan mountain ranges. We stopped here for a family picnic with my fiancée and her mom, enjoying the view and the fresh mountain air. Continuing the drive, we reached the Junction of Trongsa and Phobjikha. This is a key transit point where the road splits—one way heading deeper into Central Bhutan towards Trongsa (known for its massive Dzong) and the other turning towards our destination. We paused here for coffee and had a heartwarming interaction with some local elderly grannies living in the area. Finally, we arrived in Phobjikha Valley (also known as Gangtey). This is a vast U-shaped glacial valley at an altitude of about 3,000 meters. It is famous for being the winter home of the rare Black-Necked Cranes that migrate from the Tibetan Plateau. The valley is known for its breathtaking silence and untouched natural beauty.
