Assistant Chief Luis Menendez-Sierra briefs the media on an officer-involved shooting at 5800 Glenmont. Preliminary information: At approximatwely 3:52 p.m. on Wedenday, March 25, HPD received a call that a man was walking in the 5800 block of Glenmont with a black handgun and a pink bag. The caller said the man had inserted the gun inside the bag. One officer was dispatched at 3:54 pm and arrived three minutes later, spotting the suspect and giving him commands to put the bag down. The male reached into the purse and pulled out the handgun and pointed it at the officer. The officer fired his duty weapon at the suspect. The suspect returned fire. The officer took cover behind his patrol car and fired again. The suspect ran into an apartment complex with the officer chasing behind. The officer fired again, striking the suspect. The officer rendered aid to the suspect who was declared deceased at the scene.
