A dangerous viral trend is troubling e-rickshaw drivers in India. People are using the BAT-BMS app to connect with unsecured e-rickshaw batteries and switch them off with just one click. BAT-BMS is actually a battery management app used to monitor lithium battery charge, voltage, temperature, and health. But because many e-rickshaw batteries do not have proper password protection or security, some people are misusing the app to stop e-rickshaws on the road. This creates problems for passengers, affects traffic, and directly hurts the daily income of poor e-rickshaw drivers. In some cases, people allegedly stop the vehicle first and then ask drivers for money by pretending to be technical experts. Now, the Centre has ordered the removal of BAT-BMS and Epoch Li-ion apps from app stores due to safety and misuse concerns.
