We Took Our Kids to Feed 500 Homeless People (Didn’t Expect This)

We were on holiday in China, staying at a luxury resort, when we asked our family a simple question: “What’s your New Year’s resolution?” That moment changed everything. Instead of celebrations, we decided to take our family out and feed 500 homeless people, to show them firsthand how much of the world really lives. What we didn’t expect… was how overwhelming it would be. Many said this was their first proper meal in days. This experience wasn’t just an eye-opener for our kids, it was a reminder for us too. A reminder of how blessed we are. A reminder of how easy it is to forget. A reminder that real wealth isn’t what you have, but what you give. We’re committing to making this a regular mission, inshaAllah. In Islam, caring for the poor is not optional, it’s a core part of our faith. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught us that true belief is shown through action, especially how we treat those in need. He reminded us that a person is not a true believer if they sleep full while their neighbour goes hungry. This experience was a reminder for our family that real success isn’t measured by comfort or luxury, but by service, compassion, and gratitude to Allah for what we’ve been given.
