A lot of parents ask me — does wrapping a newborn for photos make them uncomfortable? The answer is no. In the first 4 to 5 weeks after birth, babies are still in what we call the “fourth trimester.” They’re used to being curled up, held closely, and gently supported — just like they were in the womb. Research shows that proper swaddling can help regulate a baby’s nervous system, reduce the startle reflex, and make them feel calmer and more secure. Of course, it has to be done safely. In my sessions, I’m constantly monitoring breathing, skin tone, and body response. Because experienced newborn photography isn’t about posing the baby. It’s about keeping them safe, comfortable, and working with their natural state. When a baby feels secure, that’s when the most beautiful images happen.
