Description

In 1979, Dean Thatcher, owner of the Springwater Tavern in Lilliwaup, was found dead in the rubble of his burned bar—killed by a gunshot wound to the head. A trucker driving along Highway 101 in rural Mason County on the morning of Oct. 26, was the first to report trouble at the Springwater Tavern. By the time he called 911 minutes later, flames had consumed much of the building. It would take another 12 hours before the badly burned body of the bar’s owner was discovered in the rubble. He’d been shot in the head. A few months prior, a 16-year-old girl named Amy Presley started looking for a father she never knew. Presley last saw her father, Dean Thatcher, when she was 3 years old.
