Exhausted, hungry, and unsure where to go, they followed a shepherd’s advice and sought refuge at a friary in a small village. There, Padre Pio greeted them, offered food, lodging, and blessings, and instructed them to “wait a little longer,” assuring them that it was not yet safe to continue their journey. Two soldiers grew impatient and left despite the warning—one was captured, the other died along the way. Those who stayed, guided by Padre Pio’s wisdom and care, were protected and eventually able to return home safely.
