It was based on SEAT 124 which itself was based on Fiat 124. The Fiat 124 was also introduced in India by Premier Automobiles Limited. In 1981 Premier began the process of acquiring the production tooling for the facelifted SEAT 124 D after authorisation from Fiat. The model was released in the autumn of 1985 as the Premier 118NE. NE stands for Nissan Engine. Near the end of production an improved model called Viceroy was released in collaboration with Peugeot.
