This is Part 7 of our unstoppable ride from Islamabad to Gilgit—our first major milestone on the superbikes! 🏍️ We left Chilas after a restful night and followed the route along the Gilgit River, weaving between rugged mountain ridges, taking sharp hairpins. Plunged into the brutal hazardous, broken road section of Tuta Pani demanding full focus. Later we got on stretches of good pavement, we pushed our machines, but every high-speed thrill came with the danger of sudden turns. It was a dance between temptation and maturity on two wheels. Finally, we entered Gilgit City, parking our R1 and Sultan 250 at home — a moment of pride, relief, and celebration. The path runs along river systems (especially the Gilgit / Indus tributaries) through high mountain terrain, steep gorges, and dramatic scenery. This stretch is known for both its beauty and danger: sudden twists, drop-offs, land-slips, and sections where road quality fluctuates. The KKH is often referred to as one of the world’s highest and most adventurous paved roads. **Tuta Pani (Road section between Babusar → Chilas side)** “Tuta Pani” is one of the more torturous, broken, and rough road zones during the descent from Babusar toward the Gilgit side. It tests rider skill, control, and patience. It’s known that after the pass, road quality can deteriorate in patches and require careful navigation, particularly in narrow gorges, drains, or damaged pavement sections. **Gilgit River / Valley Context** Gilgit city lies in a valley along the Gilgit River, near where that river meets the Hunza River. The river valley’s terrain offers vivid contrasts — steep mountain walls rising adjacent to the riverbed, terraces, and narrow road corridors. This zone is critical to movement: many major roads and trade routes follow the river valleys because they cut through the rugged massifs. **Gilgit City** Gilgit is the capital and most populous city of Gilgit-Baltistan (northern Pakistan). Coordinates: ~ 35.920834 N, 74.308334 E Elevation: ~1,500 meters above sea level (approximate, given its valley location) Historically, Gilgit was a key node on the ancient Silk Road and a Buddhist center before conversion to Islam; today it is a hub for tourism, trekking, mountaineering, and trade. Its role: as a gateway into the higher Karakoram and Himalayan ranges.
