Description

Three peacekeepers from the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) have been killed in the last two days, and preliminary UN investigations show that roadside bombs are more-than-likely responsible. The deaths come amid Israel’s continued hostilities in Iran, in their continued mission to destroy the Iranian-backed militant group Hezbollah. Speaking Tuesday, UNIFIL spokesperson Kandice Ardiel condemned violence between Israel and Hezbollah in Lebanon, noting that it is “putting peacekeepers at risk.” Furthermore, Ardiel vowed any party found to be responsible in the ongoing investigations will be “protested to formally.” As suspicion circles the IDF, Israeli UN Ambassaor Danny Danon pointed the finger to Hezbollah, noting that the Israeli government “made clear” to the UN – in a formal letter – that “Hezbollah was operating near UN positions and placing them in danger.” More than 1.2 million people have been displaced and another 1,200 have been killed in Lebanon since the fighting began. Ten Israeli soldiers have died in Lebanon, including four announced Tuesday.
