Description

A Japanese marten (Martes melampus melampus, family Mustelidae) in the winter coat lingered around the deserted sett of Japanese badger (Meles anakuma, family Mustelidae) in search of prey, such as a Japanese wood mouse. The marten boldly inspected inside one of the two burrows. And then the marten curiously examined a fallen tree again and again. Captured with my new trailcam in the late-evening (around 23:40 PM) of mid-December 2024 in Japan. It was -2 degrees Celsius.
