The Low Altitude Magic Carpet Ride in a Gripen Fighter Jet

The ultimate Magic Carpet Ride… Two Gripen fighter jet pilots are enjoying the thrill of low altitude navigation and tactics training. I did this in Undergraduate Pilot Training out of Vance Air Force Base in Oklahoma. We didn’t have this kind of scenery or terrain… Oklahoma is just FLAT! Winding around open water and cliffs or traversing below canyon walls gives you the sense of speed as the ground rushes by. I’ve never forgotten my very first T-38 Talon low-level ride! There was a train going across the bridge at our endpoint.
