Description

Early in the 15th week Marcel is a little bit more talkative than he had been in the preceding days,in particular over the weekend period when there was a considerable change in his demeanor especially when interacting with me where I found him to be not only less talkative but also extremely reluctant to allow me to touch him,at times snapping his beak towards my hand which was more for show/sound effect however this is extremely unusual given his past acceptance of such manhandling. There is no doubt that the two adult birds that are seen will Marcel,[sometimes both together but more often than not just one as a chaperon of sorts ] are definitely keeping Marcel from the yard to the extent that they no longer occupy the nest that Marcel came from having moved to another nest several doors down although the tree in question is at the front of the property. This clip finds him going through his usual routine of looking for somewhere to stick his beak, which I find odd because the average Raven is distrusting at the best of times,in particular when it comes to their liberty to move about " freely ",for example Ravens will not,as a rule,go into a room or enclosed area for fear of being trapped but will willingly put their beak into a tube/pipe/bottle or similar receptacle with a " neck ".This is how it has been, more often than not in similar situations that involved Marcel in the past few months however this may not be the norm as far as Ravens go and is simply the end result of being " partially " raised by humans/me. Marcel was found on the ground in the last week of July after a very stormy night, after ringing a few places i was instructed to take him to specific vet surgery where i was advised that he was a raven, healthy, unlikely to have fallen to ground & he was a fledgling & " should be returned to where he was found his parents will look after him ". unfortunately this was not the case and it was 4/5 days before the parents came near him,he also had a talon missing from a rear toe that became quite swollen & infected in the weeks that followed needing treatment,it was paw paw ointment that cleared it up after having no success with other conventional treatments.Although the only sure fire way to accurately identify the gender of a raven is by blood/dna test Marcel has been declared a male for a number of reasons with the primary one coming from my 15 yr old daughter who has declared that " that bird has to be a male.because its just so annoying " fortunately she avoids Marcel otherwise he might think his name is/was " stupid bird " admittedly the poor kid was swooped by a maggie as a five year old & it appears that it has left her quite scarred.
