Description
The ends of these deck boards are ugly, let’s fix it.
A lot of people picture frame their composite decks, but here’s another way that’s easy and gives a clean look.
I’m going to wrap the perimeter with PVC. It’s smooth on one side and has a wood texture on the other.
I start at the house and work my way out, I scribe along the siding so I can get the perfect cut for a tight fit.
BOOM- look at that.
Next, I fasten the PVC in place with 2 ¾” Cortex screws.
They come with a special bit that countersinks the screws but doesn’t scratch the PVC.
Then I fill the holes with plugs- these have a wood texture to match the PVC.
I ran into a problem on the front- this beam curves in a little bit; so, I cut shims and nailed them in place with galvanized trim nails.
I put the shims at the locations where I plan to fasten the PVC.
I use my multi-tool to notch the top of the post wraps so the PVC fits tight against the beam.
There will be one splice in the middle. I always cut 45s for my splices this way if the PVC opens up you will see white PVC and not wood.
What do you think- do you like this method or prefer picture framing? @hausplans
