Did You Know Prehistoric scallop shells are hiding in Oregon coast rocks‼️😱 These fossil “fan” shells you find out here can be around 23 million years old, right around the start of the Miocene era when Oregon’s coastline was basically an ancient underwater neighborhood packed with marine life. Most of these scallop fossils weather out of the Nye Mudstone and nearby marine sedimentary layers along the central coast. The crazy part is you’ll sometimes see the ridges and growth lines preserved so clean it looks like it got buried yesterday not millions of years ago. Your best odds for finding them are Beverly Beach (Newport area) and Moolack Beach (north of Newport), especially after storms when fresh material gets exposed. #animals #fossils #nature
