Meeting with Hanwha Ocean Co., Ltd.

Busan, Republic of Korea November 1, 2025 President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. holds a series of business meetings with leading companies in the Republic of Korea on November 1, 2025. In Busan, the President receives the executives of Hanwha Ocean Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of Hanwha Group. Hanwha Ocean is a global leader in shipbuilding and marine engineering, specializing in commercial and specialty ships, and delivering state-of-the-art submarines, destroyers and other special-purpose naval vessels. Beyond shipbuilding, Hanwha Ocean is involved in offshore energy solutions, supporting oil and gas exploration, floating production systems and seawater treatment technologies. During their meeting with President Marcos Jr., the company is proposing to explore strategic defense collaboration to enhance the Philippine Navy’s capabilities. This plan includes the construction of a submarine base, the establishment of a local Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) Center, and the training of Filipino naval personnel using advanced simulators and systems.
