India has set its sights on becoming an economic global power. For western entrepreneurs, the country could be a feasible alternative to China. But how sustainable is the current boom? "We’re a nuclear power, a space power. But India also wants to be an economic power,” says a former Indian ambassador. The key growth indicators point to robust expansion. Business leaders and billionaires in India are in high spirits. With a huge government stimulus program for infrastructure, Prime Minister Narendra Modi wants to turn his vision into reality and make India's economy competitive. In November, the government's National Infrastructure Pipeline program had a total value of around 1.4 trillion dollars. The country is also struggling to create sufficient jobs for the millions of young people entering its workforce every year.
