Egyptian football fans have gone through a rollercoaster of emotions since the turn of the millennium. Their national team has dominated the African Cup of Nations, and their two biggest clubs have taken home more trophies than any other club in Africa. But for the majority of Egyptian fans, there is a huge disconnect. Ramadan (A) explores Egypt’s complex relationship with fandom, past tragedies and identity. However, during Ramadan, throughout the day and from Iftar (first meal at sundown) to Suhoor (last meal at sunrise), the street football tournaments reignite their passion and show just how much this nation loves the beautiful game.
