Seal Trapped in Giant Heavy-Duty Bag

This young seal found himself entangled in a shredded heavy-duty polypropylene bag. These industrial-strength bags are commonly used to transport bulk materials like grains, sand, cement, fertilizer, salt, or plastic pellets. Designed to be strong and durable, they are nearly impossible to tear apart, especially for a seal with no hands. This rescue was especially tricky. The strands of plastic were tightly wrapped around the animal’s head and were even stuck inside his mouth. Our team had to work carefully to remove everything without injuring the seal or getting bitten in the process.
