Description
The Canadian Grand Prix perfectly captured the two very different realities inside Ferrari right now.
For Lewis Hamilton, Montreal felt like his strongest and happiest weekend since joining Ferrari. From the start of the weekend, he looked comfortable with the car, consistently competitive through qualifying and the race, and fully involved in the fight near the front. He qualified ahead of Charles Leclerc, stayed in contention throughout Sunday, and eventually finished on the podium behind Kimi Antonelli after one of Ferrari’s most encouraging weekends of the 2026 season so far.
The mood around Lewis all weekend felt noticeably lighter too. The confidence was there, the pace was there, and for the first time in a while, Ferrari genuinely looked like a place where he was enjoying himself again.
Meanwhile, the other side of the garage could not have looked more different.
Charles Leclerc spent almost the entire weekend struggling with balance issues, tyre temperatures, braking confidence, and a car he repeatedly said he couldn’t trust around Montreal. He qualified only P8, never really found rhythm during the race, and sounded increasingly frustrated over team radio as the weekend unfolded.
The defining moment came late in the Grand Prix when Leclerc finally told Ferrari:
“Let’s stop speaking until the last lap.”
It perfectly summed up how draining the weekend had become for him. While Hamilton was celebrating one of his best Ferrari performances yet, Leclerc left Canada calling it one of the most difficult weekends of his Formula 1 career so far.
Same car. Same team. Completely different weekends.
Meanwhile, the next Grand Prix is in Monaco and Charles Leclerc and Scuderia Ferrari will be giving their best to secure a potential 2nd win for the Monegasque at his home Grand Prix. But it won't be easy with Mercedes constantly dominating on all tracks so far.
