Since 2019, the South African has been a Goodwill Ambassador for the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, and she has met with refugees and internally displaced people through her role. Mbatha told attendees at the TIME100 Davos Dinner that, through her own non-profit organization, the Nomzamo Lighthouse Foundation, she has been able to fund 10 South African students to attend top universities in the country to study STEM programs. There are tens of millions displaced globally, but Mbatha reminded: “The numbers have names, and the numbers have faces.
