Japanese Raccoon Dogs Roams around the Snowy Den Site in Mid-December

Family members of Japanese raccoon dogs (Nyctereutes viverrinus, family Canidae) prowling around the snow-covered fallow field to check out three or four entrances of the winter den site. You can also see one coming in and out of a burrow. Captured with my new trailcam at night of mid-December 2024 in Japan. Unlike the relative (continental) species (Nyctereutes procyonoides), this species does NOT hibernate during cold winters.
