Description

Dr. Shabir Choudhry is a prominent London-based Kashmiri intellectual, politician, and author. He currently serves as the president of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the United Kashmir People's National Party. Over the decades, he has played a leading role in various Kashmiri political movements. He helped establish the Kashmir Youth Movement in 1973, the Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) in 1977, and the Kashmir National Party in 2008. However, he resigned from each of these organizations due to differences over their evolving direction and policies. Having moved to the United Kingdom in 1966, Dr. Choudhry has consistently spoken out against extremism, violence, and religious intolerance in Kashmir. Through regular articles, statements, press releases, videos, and participation in conferences, he continues to advocate for peace and human rights. Dr. Choudhry is a frequent participant in the sessions of the United Nations Human Rights Commission in Geneva and has spoken at seminars and conferences held at the British Parliament, the European Parliament, and other major international forums on issues related to Kashmir, terrorism, and regional peace. Notably, in 1990, he was invited as the chief guest at a conference on Kashmir at the University of Cambridge. He is a founding member of the Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF), chairman of South Asia Watch, and founding director of the Institute of Kashmir Affairs. *********************************** Shakil Chaudhary is a journalist, author, and researcher.
