Japan to Transfer Five Abukuma-Class Warships; PH to Shoulder Logistics, says defense chief

The Philippines will shoulder the logistics, transport, crew training, and system integration costs for the transfer of five Abukuma-class destroyer escorts from Japan, Defense Secretary Gilberto Teodoro Jr. said on Friday, July 10. He clarified that Japan will not receive any payment for the vessels. Teodoro said both countries have already agreed in principle to the transfer, although discussions are still ongoing and no timeline has been set.
