Description

More than 200 children have been killed since start of the ceasefire in in Gaza in October 2025. The number of children who have sustained injuries, lost limbs and been badly hurt is much higher. UNICEF spokesperson Salim Oweis reports from the bedside of 3-year-old Jamalat at Al Shifa Hospital in Gaza City in May 2026. Jamalat lost her foot when she was hit by an air strike. Her mother sustained injuries as well. "I was talking to the family and the question remains: Why? Why would children still suffer? Especially since there is a ceasefire," Oweis says. Children are not targets. Every ceasefire violation puts children's lives at risk. Subscribe to UNICEF USA's YouTube Channel for the latest updates.
