In 1987, Karen Greenlee gave a rare interview to Jim Morton for his book Apocalypse Culture, years after her crimes had shocked the public. The interview took place in her apartment, which Morton described as filled with dark artwork, books, and occult imagery. Greenlee claimed she was far more comfortable with herself than she had been when she wrote her infamous letter years earlier. She said she no longer believed society’s judgment meant she was “crazy,” and instead saw her desires as part of who she was. Greenlee dismissed the idea that her actions stemmed from an inability to form relationships with living men. She admitted that after her arrest, she found work at another funeral home in a different state, where the behavior continued until she was discovered and fired. Greenlee also claimed that such behavior was more common than people realized but often quietly ignored. The interview was published under the title The Unrepentant Necrophile. She later reportedly regretted the interview, changed her name, and disappeared from public view.
