In prior episodes we covered the outbreak of the final war between Rome and Carthage. This involved the invasion of Africa and the numerous failed attempts by Roman commanders to take the enemy capital. In this episode we cover the latest attempt by Scipio Aemelianus who had been hailed as a hero of the war and was the most trusted to finish the job. However the defenders of Carthage would fight back with great ferocity, even rebuilding their fleet in secret for a desperate gamble to flip the table on the invaders. What followed was a massive naval battles outside the walls of the city. Both sides fought inconclusively until the coming of night forced a retreat. In the aftermath, Rome would pursue Carthage onto their docks and fight a protracted battle to gain control of the harbor. This would bring the defenders to the end of their limits. Now we bear witness to the final assault in the siege of Carthage.
