Gravel, mud & tarmac: the Zeekr 7X didn't break a sweat!

If you'd said just 20 years ago that a comfy, affordable family SUV from China would be climbing through mud before flying down an Australian race track at over 200 km/h, you'd likely have been met with laughter. But that's exactly what happened at the Zeekr X launch event at The Bend race track near Adelaide last week. Several motoring journalists and reviewers were sent to the event to see how agile (or not) these large family cruisers actually are, both on and off the road. And they did much better than expected! Gav started on the dirt, where the SUV’s adjustable suspension soaked up corrugations, while the AWD system distributed power where it was needed, pushing safely through sand, climbing hills and even forging (admittedly shallow) swamps. Next came the race track experience, beginning with the RWD version which, while undeniably heavy, masked its weight well around the corners. But it's the AWD Performance model which was more impressive for obvious reasons, delivering 475 kW and 710 Nm to all four wheels. The Performance version shot out of bends and flew effortless down the straight, clocking 205 km/h without breaking a sweat. For a 2.3 tonne family tank, that's staggering - even if no one's ever going to do it in the real world! New Zealand pricing has since been announced for the Zeekr 7X, starting at $69,990 for the base RWD (480 km range), $79,990 for the long-range RWD (615 km range), and $94,990 for the Performance AWD 543 km range).
