Conservative Party leader Kemi Badenoch holds a press conference in central London, with an expected reaction to the Prime Minister's announcement of an under-16s social media ban. Sir Keir Starmer has vowed to 'call time on a system that's failing our kids' ahead of a major announcement tomorrow where it is expected he will set out plans for a social media ban for under-16s. The Prime Minister will give a press conference on Monday where he is to announce sweeping reforms to protect children online. It is anticipated he will confirm plans to bar children from certain platforms, going further than Australia by including chatbots and imposing a curfew for older teenagers in a bid to end late-night scrolling. The UK will follow Australia’s example in raising the minimum age to 16 for sites including TikTok, Instagram, Threads, Facebook, X, YouTube, Snapchat and Reddit, The Sunday Times have reported.
