Description

It’s been a while since the story of the Jujutsu Kaisen has come to an end, and I’ve had ample time to either reread or just look at things from a different perspective. Recently, I’ve come to a realization that beyond all of the fighting, and the obvious sad or heartwrenching moments in the series, Jujutsu Kaisen is even more tragic than it seems on the surface; and that’s saying a lot for a story that’s known for being quite brutal to it’s cast. There’s all kinds of implications and story beats that just aren’t acknowledged that much or even made aware to most readers and watchers that I’ve come to see and in this video, I want to both share a lot of these observations about the characters or stories and analyze other parts of the story that only reinforce the true nature of this story; and how really, Jujutsu Kaisen is set in a world where temporary happiness is a miracle for the characters that we all know and love. With that said, if you enjoy content such as this; don’t forget to leave a like & subscribe and now… let’s get into the video. First and foremost, Jujutsu Kaisen is deeply tragic because it begins and ends with the same thing, a dying grandfather and a boy cursed to keep moving forward. Yuji’s story does not start with ambition, destiny, or power, it starts with obligation. Wasuke’s final words are not encouragement, they are a curse, a command to live for others even if it destroys you. The volume extra reveal reframes everything, Sukuna did not share a soul with Jin, he shared it with Wasuke. This turns Sukuna from a random ancient evil into the physical manifestation of Yuji’s inherited curse. Yuji does not just carry Sukuna inside him, he carries his grandfather’s unresolved existence, suffering, and loneliness. Yuji’s entire journey is shaped by curses that force him to endure rather than choose. He is pushed forward after Junpei’s death, after Shibuya, after Nanami and Nobara, not because he wants to live, but because stopping would make those deaths meaningless. His resolve is not hope, it is obligation. The tragedy is that Yuji never fights for himself. Every major step forward is motivated by guilt, responsibility, or someone else’s will. Even his end goal is to die properly, not to live happily. Yuji attempting to save Sukuna is tragic because Sukuna is the source of his suffering. Yuji does not seek revenge, he seeks understanding. He tries to ensure Sukuna does not die alone, the same fate his grandfather feared. Yuji’s domain expansion mudra, Ksitigarbha, confirms the tragedy. His ultimate self is not a king, warrior, or god, but a guide through hell. Yuji’s enlightenment is accepting endless suffering so others do not have to. The story ends not with victory, but with acceptance. Yuji does not fix the world, he learns how to carry it. Jujutsu Kaisen is tragic because the world never improves, the system remains broken, curses persist, and people continue to die, the only thing that changes is Yuji’s understanding of suffering. Ultimately, Jujutsu Kaisen is not about curses as monsters, but curses as inherited pain, a story about how love, loneliness, and final words echo far beyond death, and how a kind boy was never allowed to live for himself.
