Description

December 1943. A B-17 limped out of Germany, torn open by flak, engines dying, tail gunner dead, and its 21-year-old pilot—Charlie Brown—barely conscious. They called the bomber “Ye Olde Pub.” But there was nothing old-fashioned about the beating it just took. As the crippled Fortress staggered toward England, a lone German Bf-109 suddenly rose out of the clouds—flown by ace pilot Franz Stigler, a man one trigger pull away from becoming a legend inside the Luftwaffe. Except… he didn’t pull it. Stigler could see the shredded fuselage, the wounded crew trying to keep their friends alive, and instead of firing, he tucked in beside the American bomber—literally escorting his enemy out of Germany. Because honor meant more to him than another kill. This is the unbelievable true story of two enemies… who refused to act like enemies.
